SCRIBE Privacy Policy

SCRIBE is a Chrome extension that helps testers record a web testing session (screen replay, console output, network activity, page navigation and clicks), capture annotated screenshots, tag findings, and export the result as a zip file for developers to review.

The short version. SCRIBE keeps everything on your own device. It does not send your data anywhere. The only time data leaves the extension is when you choose to export a session, which saves a zip file to your computer. Nothing is uploaded to us or to any third party.

What SCRIBE records

While you are running a session, SCRIBE captures information from the pages you are testing so it can build a useful bug report. This can include:

Screenshots you take, including any annotations you draw on them.
A visual replay of the page (the page structure and your interactions).
Browser console messages logged by the page.
Network request and response metadata (such as URLs, methods and status codes) for the pages under test.
Page navigation events and the pages you visit during the session.
Clicks and similar interactions on the page.
Notes and findings you type yourself.

Because the pages you test may themselves contain personal or sensitive information, the recordings can include such content. That recorded content is treated exactly the same as everything else: it stays on your device.

Where your data is stored

All recorded data is stored locally on your device using the browser's own storage (IndexedDB and extension storage). It is held only within your browser profile on your computer.

What SCRIBE does not do

It does not transmit your data to us or to any external server.
It does not use analytics, tracking or advertising.
It does not sell or share your data with anyone.
It does not load or run remote code.

Exporting and deleting your data

Exporting is always a manual action. When you export a session, SCRIBE creates a zip file (containing a report, the session data and your screenshots) and saves it to your device using the browser's download feature. After that, what you do with the file is entirely up to you.

You can delete recorded sessions from within the extension at any time. Removing the extension from Chrome also removes its stored data.

Permissions

SCRIBE requests the browser permissions it needs to record a session: access to tab and page content, network and navigation activity, script injection for capture, local storage, and downloads for export. These permissions are used solely to record and export the session on your device, as described above.

Children

SCRIBE is a developer and tester tool and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change to reflect it.
